Global warming refers to the long-term rise in Earth’s surface temperature, particularly since the pre-industrial era (1850–1900). This phenomenon is mostly caused by human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels, which raises the concentrations of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor are examples of greenhouse gases. Approximately 25% of greenhouse gas emissions come from food systems such as livestock. Most people don’t know that their dietary preference directly affects global warming....click here to read more

Space has always been of interest to people, and this curiosity is what first led us to explore it. One of humanity’s most significant discoveries is the moon. The moon is Earth's closest neighbor and one of the most popular destinations for space exploration. For a while, many countries competed to be the first to go to the moon, the first being the Soviet Union in 1959 with its Luna 2 Spacecraft. Today, scientists are thinking about melting the moon, and this idea is not a theory or a mad scientist’s idea. It is a real concept and scientists are already taking action. But two questions remain: Why? And how?...click here to read more

Dr. Jamie McGowan, a postdoctoral scientist at the Earlham Institute, analyzed the genome sequence of a microscopic organism—a protist—isolated from a freshwater pond at Oxford University Parks. Mcgowan was working on sequencing single cellular organisms and he came upon Oligohymenophorea sp. PL0344. This organism had a unique way of translating RNA codons into proteins. While examining the genetic structure of Oligohymenophorea sp. PL0344, Dr. McGowan discovered that, unlike most known organisms, this ciliate uses only TGA as a stop codon, causing a paradigm shift in genetics...click here to read more

The US Environmental Protection Agency, also known as the EPA, is an institution responsible for the protection of human, public, and environmental health within the United States, utilizing tactics such as including the regulation of pesticide usage, marketing of chemicals, and cleaning up chemically contaminated lands to safeguard the environment. The EPA has authorized the use of OX5034 GM Ae. aegypti mosquitoes for release in counties in Florida and Texas. Genetic modification is a process of altering the gene sequence of an organism with laboratory-based technologies by using methods like nucleotide insertion, deletions, and gene replacements...click here to read more

Light microscopes are devices used in laboratories that operate based on the interaction of visible light with small objects and structures by providing magnified images. Compared to other microscope technologies, light microscopes have numerous benefits in terms of scope and versatility. To illustrate, it provides a magnification of 10x to 2000x, the most ideal magnification settings for biological fields such as histology, and the microscopic study of tissues. This promising technology is used in multiple other fields such as micrology, medicine, and material science...click here to read more
